USS Mispillion AO-105 was one of many to provide this essential service. Commissioned 25 December 1945, Mispillion served with distinction throughout her career, taking part in numerous conflicts around the world. Originally built to carry 95,000 barrels of fuel oil, in 1965 she went through an extensive overhaul period, expanding her capacity to 188,095 barrels. This transformation was often referred to as "Jumboization". The model depicted here, is as she appeared in the early 1970's. A unique feature is the "Union 76" orange ball which rotates, and is illuminated at night. This feature is as it was in real life at that time.
